The Transitional Kindergarten Program (TK) offered by Rocklin Unified School District (RUSD) focuses on the social and developmental skills required for the academic demands of the regular Kindergarten program. The child-centered TK program includes activities and experiences that will encourage each child to:

  • learn foundational academic skills
  • develop social, emotional, physical, and academic skills
  • expand their knowledge of the world around them
  • learn to recognize and handle their feelings appropriately
  • develop positive and satisfying relationships
  • learn through play
The TK program will prepare your child for the academic and social expectations of the formal school experience in a developmentally and age-appropriate setting. We are pleased to offer this high-quality experience for our youngest learners.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why place my child in TK?
Both research and experience show that children do well when placed in an appropriate program matched to their developmental stages. Placing children in a program before they are ready may damage their self-esteem and their overall learning experience. Giving children the foundational skills to support academic skills allows them to view their school experience as a positive one.

What are the advantages of Transitional Kindergarten?
Transitional Kindergarten bridges the path between preschool and kindergarten and gives students a head start that will yield considerable benefits in future academic success. TK provides the gift of time that will help students build a strong foundation for success in elementary school.

TK is a win-win-win for children, families, and schools.
  • Children are better prepared to succeed.
  • Families have an additional option to ensure their children enter kindergarten with the maturity, confidence, and skills they need to excel.
  • Schools benefit because children will be better prepared to succeed academically upon entering kindergarten.
  • TK will prepare students for success with California's rigorous academic standards.
