May 11, 2023 - Reminder About ECF & District Chromebooks Checked Out to Students
As we come to the end of the school year it's a reminder that if you have a Chromebook checked out to you from the school district It will continue to stay with you until you either graduate or leave the school district. If you are a graduating senior or planning on not returning next year, please return your Chromebook before the end of the school year.
May 5, 2023 - Final Opportunity to Take Advantage of the ECF (Emergency Connectivity Fund) for Student Cheomebooks
We would like to remind families that the Emergency Connectivity Fund or ECF program will end this year. This is a great opportunity for families, regardless of income, to make sure that their students have a new District managed Chromebook at home. Rocklin Unified School District has been able to supply many families and students with these Chromebooks over the last 2 years and as the program closes at the end of this school year, we still have a couple hundred devices we are able to check out to students. These devices will continue to update and be usable through the 2029-30 school year. If you have a student in fourth grade or up, these Chromebooks will last them until they graduate high school. Students keep these devices until they either graduate or leave the Rocklin Unified School District.
If you have considered applying for the program or would like to apply for the program so you can make sure that your student has a new Chromebook to use, please follow this link. (https://bit.ly/ecf-apply) Remember we have a limited number left so don’t hesitate to take advantage of this opportunity.

January 31, 2023 - Changes Coming to RUSD's BYOD Network for All Personal Devices
The WHY:
Student and District security and safety are of utmost importance. In order to continue to build the most secure RUSD network and keep resources as safe as possible, we will be requiring ALL 7-12 grade students to carry a Managed Chromebook to school with them each day. RUSD will no longer provide support for students who choose to bring a non-managed device to school (this includes Windows, MAC, non-managed Chromebooks, etc). Over the coming months, the security on the network personal devices connect to will become more limited and filtered. Because of this, personal devices on this network should not be used to support daily instruction. Devices on the this network may not function as expected for classroom use and will be required to authenticate through out the day.
The Message:
We live in a world where our network is constantly tested and attacked from not only the outside, but unfortunately from within also. Rocklin Unified School District is committed to providing a secure network and district online resources to support learning and protect our students' data. Because of this all students must have a managed Chromebook for use in class beginning February 1, 2023. Students should no longer rely on the use of Personal Devices, like Macbooks or PC’s, as daily instructional devices after this date. This continues the messaging we began with families back in May of 2022.
For more information, families can go to our Technology Services Family Resource page.
All students will have to choose one of these three options:
- Complete an ECF application for a new device (100% reimbursed for the district)
- Check out a current RUSD Chromebook from the Library
- Install a Google Management License on a personal Chromebook.
January 31, 2023 - Preparing Your Elementary Students for Middle School Technology
The WHY & The Message:
Before you know it your 4-6 grade students will enter middle school. RUSD uses a Managed BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Program for all 7th - 12th grade students. This means they must carry a district managed Chromebook to and from school every day.
Families will have three options for this:
- The ECF Program - apply for their student to get a new Chromebook through the ECF program, which will last until they graduate high school (program ends Juine 2023)
- Checking out an RUSD Chromebook - Students will also have the choice to check out a previously used device from the library.
- Adding a Managed License to a Personal Chromebook - they can apply a management license to a personal Chromebook that they already own or are planning to purchase.
Once checked out, all RUSD (ECF & Other) devices will stay with the student until they either graduate, move, or the device no longer works.
All families will have the opportunity to purchase a Protection Plan for all RUSD/ECF Chromebooks.
Students will not be allowed to bring a personal Macbook or PC. Managed personal or district devices will be the only supported devices for students.
