ROCKLIN, Calif. – March 26, 2021 – The Rocklin Unified School District (RUSD) is elated to announce securing $456,244.38 in funding to purchase three new school buses. The RUSD Transportation Department was awarded the grant from the Placer County Air Pollution Control District to improve air quality for residents of the community.
Rocklin Unified will replace three diesel-powered buses with new fuel efficient buses that use clean-burning diesel engines and meet the 2010 emissions standards. These buses will reduce reactive organic gases and nitrogen oxides, which are known to cause adverse health effects including shortness of breath, bronchitis, and asthma attacks. The new buses will also reduce impacts on the environment.
The funding is part of two different grants. In October 2020, RUSD received $313,109 from the Carl Moyer Grant to replace two 84-passenger buses that are 15 years old. The district was awarded the Community Air Protection Incentives Program Grant Award in February 2021 in the amount of $143,135.38 to replace a 24-passenger diesel bus that is 25 years old. In total the school district will spend $44,358.83 in matching funds in order to receive the two grants, which total to the amount of $456,244.38.
