Construction Update 1: 7/23/2019
As the 2019-2020 school year approaches, Rocklin Unified staff, students and families all bustle with excitement as they prepare for another year of hard work, celebrations and educational excellence at RUSD. This year, however, our community has something extraordinarily special to be excited for-- the building of the district’s newest elementary school.
Located at 810 Lazy Trail Drive in the Whitney Ranch area, this state-of-the-art campus is built with students in mind while also promoting the same strong traditions found throughout all of our Rocklin Unified schools.
Some of the most impressive facts about the new school revolve around safety, collaboration and flexible learning, proving that district staff members and construction partners are building elementary school #12 to fit a 21st-century education experience!
Here is what has happened so far:
Landmark Construction broke ground on May 23.
Lund Construction Co. has spent the last two months preparing the site by excavating rock and grading. They have also begun working on site utilities.
Big B Construction is preparing to rebar and form the schools 1200 foot retaining wall.
Dinelli Plumbing and Alessandro Electric have been installing some of the site’s plumbing and electrical components.
Taylor Structures has begun delivering lumber in preparation of framing later this month.
Construction isn’t the only thing that has progressed this summer, though. Rocklin Unified staff members have been hard at work organizing the more than 300 name suggestions that were received from our RUSD family for the new school. The names are being prepared for our Board of Trustees, who will choose the official name in early Fall.
Following the progress shared by our friends at Landmark Construction-- along with the influx of support received by students, families, staff and community members in the naming of our newest elementary school-- RUSD is enthusiastically awaiting the project’s expected opening in the Fall of 2021.
To commemorate the support as well as all that has been accomplished by our construction partners, the district will be hosting a special celebration at the new elementary school where the entire Rocklin community is invited to attend. Date and time to be announced at a later date.
*Extra Information: You may have noticed work taking place on an extra parcel of land in the Whitney Ranch area. We have received some questions as to whether or not this will be the home of a new RUSD Middle School. In 2014, the Board of Trustees voted to not build a new middle school and instead enhance and expand our current facilities. This included the major expansion at Granite Oaks Middle School completed in 2016.
